For many decades chlorine gas has been the predominant chemical utilised for the disinfection of water. This most economic disinfectant is available as chlorine gas or liquid chlorine supplied in cylinders or ton containers. Using a vacuum operated chlorine gas feeder or chlorinator, a chlorine solution is prepared on-site from chlorine gas and water. This solution is used as disinfectant.
Wallace & Tiernan (now Siemens) chlorinators and chlorine gas feeders supplied by Hydramet operate to the all-vacuum principle, ensuring there is vacuum from the liquefied chlorine supply container to the injector. There are no longer chlorine lines under pressure, the complete system operates under vacuum and provides maximum safety.
The remote vacuum gas feeders can also be used for:
- Carbon Dioxide (CO2) for lowering the pH or the hardening of potable water
- Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) for dechlorination applications
- Ammonia Gas (NH3)
The range of chlorinator units available are capable of dosing from 3-60g/hr Cl2 up to 10-200kg/hr Cl2, thus covering any capacity to meet all requirements. For capacities above 25kg/hr Cl2 a liquid chlorine evaporator may be used to reduce the number of chlorine containers connected at a time.
The worldwide proven Wallace & Tiernan (now Siemens) chlorinator V-notch chlorine gas flow control technology provides high accuracy and repeatability. Control of the V-notch can be from simple manual control up to sophisticated automatic control system by means of an electric positioner. A vacuum regulating valve at the chlorine gas supply container or the manifold reduces gas pressure to operating vacuum at once. The vacuum regulator is also available as an automatic switchover unit.
Hydramet has over 20 years experience, specialising in the concept development, design, fabrication, assembly, installation and commissioning of packaged chlorine gas systems.
Hydramet's packaged chlorine gas systems include chlorine gas skids, chlorine dosing sytems, chlorine gas leak detection and chlorine gas leak automatic shutdown systems
